Have you been affected by loss of work due to illness or an accident?
Disability pension ensures your income if your ability to work is reduced due to illness or an accident. In order to receive this pension, a doctor must certify that you are physically incapable of working more than 50% for six months or longer, which would cause a loss of income.
The disability is based on a reduced ability to perform the job that qualified you as a member to the fund. You also must have paid premiums for at least 24 months to one of the pension funds in Iceland. Disability pension is intended to compensate for loss of income if it has occurred but is not a supplement to other income.
